Employment Solicitor

About the job

Job Title: Employment Solicitor
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Contract Type: Full-time, 12-Month Fixed Term Contract
Salary: Competitive (depending on experience) + Benefits

About the Role

We’re working with a leading values-driven law firm to assist them in hiring an Employment Solicitor to join their Employment & Pensions team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with an immediate start.

You’ll be supporting a well-established team that advises clients across a wide range of sectors, with a strong emphasis on work for social care providers. The role offers a great opportunity for a solicitor with broad employment law experience – including both contentious and non-contentious matters.

You’ll report directly to a partner in the team, working alongside colleagues based in Manchester and Birmingham to provide high-quality advice and representation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle a mixed caseload of employment law matters, including:
  • Contentious work – employment tribunals, case preparation, and advocacy (primarily respondent work)
  • Non-contentious advisory work – contracts, policies, procedures, settlement agreements, disciplinary and grievance issues
  • Provide clear and pragmatic advice to clients on a range of HR and employment law issues
  • Draft legal documents and prepare correspondence on behalf of clients
  • Assist with the management of tribunal claims, including instructions to counsel where required
  • Build strong relationships with clients, primarily in the social care sector, while remaining open to work across a wider client base
  • Contribute to legal updates and knowledge-sharing within the team
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Manchester and Birmingham offices

Key Skills and Experience

  • Qualified solicitor (newly qualified to 4 years PQE) with experience in employment law
  • Exposure to both contentious and non-contentious work is essential
  • Experience acting on behalf of respondents in tribunal proceedings
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills
  • Strong organisational abilities and a proactive approach to case management
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience with clients in the social care or not-for-profit sectors is beneficial but not essential

What Our Client Offers

  • Supportive and collaborative working culture
  • Hybrid working arrangements from Birmingham
  • Exposure to high-quality, meaningful work with purpose-led clients
  • Strong team environment across both offices
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
