Job Title: Senior Buyer – Timber & Packaging

Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum
About the Role
We’re working on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business to recruit a commercially minded Senior Buyer with experience in commodity product procurement. This is a standalone position, offering full ownership of a high-value procurement portfolio (c. £6–7 million in timber spend), reporting directly into the senior leadership team.
You’ll be responsible for managing supplier relationships, navigating commodity markets, and ensuring stock availability while identifying cost-saving opportunities. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives under pressure, and is confident introducing structure where needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process
- Build strong supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, and monitor supplier performance
- Analyse market trends and commodity pricing to inform buying strategy (short vs forward purchasing)
- Identify and deliver cost-efficiencies while ensuring supply continuity and quality
- Develop procurement policies, systems, and reporting tools where required
- Monitor and report on spend, performance, and potential risk areas
- Collaborate with operational and commercial teams to align procurement with business goals
- Oversee stock planning and purchasing schedules to match production demand
Candidate Profile
- Proven procurement experience, ideally within a commodity-led environment
- Commercially minded, with confidence to make strategic purchasing decisions
- Able to work independently with full accountability for procurement function
- Strong communicator and confident negotiator
- Organised and process-driven, with a keen eye for detail and cost control
- Positive, collaborative approach with the ability to influence cross-functional teams
