We are working with a special alloyed metals distributor with a long-standing reputation for quality, innovation, and service. With a turnover of £6 million, we specialise in technically engineered products, servicing a range of industrial sectors. The business is now poised for its next phase of growth and looking for a dynamic, commercially driven Managing Director to lead this exciting journey.
The Role
As Managing Director, you will be responsible for the strategic, commercial, and operational leadership of the business. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a deep understanding of technical products, strong commercial acumen, and a pragmatic, sleeves-rolled-up approach to problem-solving and growth delivery.
You’ll work closely with the board and senior management team to shape and implement strategy, optimise performance, and drive profitable, sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction across all business functions including operations, sales, finance, and production.
- Develop and execute the company’s commercial strategy to increase market share and profitability.
- Lead on key customer relationships and major commercial opportunities.
- Identify new market sectors and product development opportunities.
- Champion a high-performance culture and continuous improvement across the business.
- Ensure operational excellence, maintaining strong quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the board on investment decisions and long-term planning.
- Mentor and develop the senior leadership team to enhance capability and succession planning.
About You
- Proven experience in a Managing Director or General Manager role within a manufacturing or engineering business.
- Strong commercial track record with experience in technically complex products or industrial solutions.
- Hands-on, practical leadership style – willing to get involved at all levels.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Able to work strategically but also dive into operational detail where needed.
- Background in the metals sector is advantageous but not essential.
