About the Role
We’re working with a leading values-driven law firm to assist them in hiring an Employment Solicitor to join their Employment & Pensions team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with an immediate start.
You’ll be supporting a well-established team that advises clients across a wide range of sectors, with a strong emphasis on work for social care providers. The role offers a great opportunity for a solicitor with broad employment law experience – including both contentious and non-contentious matters.
You’ll report directly to a partner in the team, working alongside colleagues based in Manchester and Birmingham to provide high-quality advice and representation.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle a mixed caseload of employment law matters, including:
- Contentious work – employment tribunals, case preparation, and advocacy (primarily respondent work)
- Non-contentious advisory work – contracts, policies, procedures, settlement agreements, disciplinary and grievance issues
- Provide clear and pragmatic advice to clients on a range of HR and employment law issues
- Draft legal documents and prepare correspondence on behalf of clients
- Assist with the management of tribunal claims, including instructions to counsel where required
- Build strong relationships with clients, primarily in the social care sector, while remaining open to work across a wider client base
- Contribute to legal updates and knowledge-sharing within the team
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Manchester and Birmingham offices
Key Skills and Experience
- Qualified solicitor (newly qualified to 4 years PQE) with experience in employment law
- Exposure to both contentious and non-contentious work is essential
- Experience acting on behalf of respondents in tribunal proceedings
- Excellent communication and drafting skills
- Strong organisational abilities and a proactive approach to case management
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience with clients in the social care or not-for-profit sectors is beneficial but not essential
